Yes, Mr. Swan uploaded it. No, he did not write it. He extracted the text from a Traditionalist mocking article in the National Catholic Reporter, the notorious American heretical newspaper, or the Kansas City Crap Sheet, as yours truly calls it. What is interesting about this Facebook entry, posted yesterday, it that his next FB entry, posted soonafter, was for an article/link written by a university student entitled "Old-fashioned worship attracts youth", published in the Catholic Register, of which Mr. Swan is Associate Editor. The CR article included a photograph of two young ladies wearing veils.
It's the juxtaposition of the two posts that's the giveaway.
What is the purpose of doing that - especially that particular quotation - except to send a message of his dislike for the return to reverent liturgy and its concomitants? Why share a link to an article, minus a qualifier, where we find phrases like "veiled patriarchy", "get in on the dress-up fun", "enthusiastic would-be veil wearers", "an in-your-face expression of submission", unless he agrees. That's fine, and he's certainly free to post whatever preference on FB. Contrarily, I see mantillas at Mass as a most excellent thing. It confers that distinctive Catholic dignity and mystery to a woman. Also, it is symbolic of that extra and special amount of privacy which is the natural right of a woman. TH2 recalls at one Mass sitting behind a lady with a 2-foot tall beehive hairdo. Her neck was ever more so tilting as time passed and, poor creature, I thought her head was going to snap off. You see, men get distracted.
There is no shock here, even in this little Facebook example. Mr. Swan, in his columns and reports, has been doing this schtick for years at CR. In the past his articles were more blatant in their antagonism to orthodoxy. In recent years, his write-ups are more subtle, still skewed to Leftist causes and associated esoterica, made to appear as a "normal" Catholic thing. So next time you read one of his reports on some crew cut lesbo-feminist nuns getting in a tizzy over "global warming", or of some social justice activist being enthralled with a dictator in some South American banana republic, my advice would be to read just to know what ephemeral fashion is currently preoccupying the establishment church, not for what the Magisterium actually teaches.
But, really, this short post is just a reminder to you Catholic Canucks, roughing it out in the Arian wasteland, of the headstrong Modernist/heterodox mentality of those entrenched within the CanCath MSM particularly, and the Magic Circle generally. The system needs to be flushed out.
CCCB Plenary just ended. Have a post thereabout in the works.

Mr. Swan has consistently shown his bias against anyone in the Church desiring traditional liturgy, piety and belief. When not doing this, he is promoting heterdox opinions and liturgical abusers. He promotes Jesuit Farm Cow-Pie, Hay-Bale Masses and that a City Council Gun Ban is held up by "theologians" (one so-called "theologian"on Toronto Council). Enough of this rot
As a silver lining, the follow-up article on traditionalism was written by a Youth Speak news journalist/Student. So take that for what it's worth. My generation is the "agent of change" alright, and we're slowly, but really bringing out Benedict XVI's "the reform of the reform".
I've been wearing a veil to Mass for, oh, four or five years. The fact that feminists don't want me wearing a veil was the final little push I needed to start wearing one.
Anything the feminists hate that much has got to be good.
Yes, you have to start doing a good thing, the right thing (in my view), regardless of those erroneous forces in the majority, so easily offended, desiring only the status quo. When you wear a veil it set's an example, it's a reminder, it even gets a little personal, scratching the conscious' of others witnessing it, who react in various ways. It's sort of like blogging, too. Posting about puppy dogs, sunflowers and moonbeams is just fine. But get to the origin of something, set your target, and - oh my! - what reactions. Still, it's the latter way to which problems can only be resolved.
Mr. Swan should read the Documents of Vatican II. It clearly says that although it is no longer required if women want to cover their heads in church they are permitted. He, or any man, has absolutely no say in the matter.
TH2, you had me confused at 1st. When I see National Catholic Register, I think of the good one run down here in the States by EWTN.
Clearly though, both the Non-Catholic Reporter & your Catholic(?) Register miss the whole point, this isn't about costumes & dress up, it is about faithfulness to the magesterium & the attraction to the truth found in it.
Wait a minute, maybe they do know it & that is why they are mocking it. They see that they are losing the battle with what they teach so rather than admit they are wrong, they attack those messengers with the truth.
With the new Code of Canon Law, women are not required to wear veils. Still, to do so has been supported by the Fathers and Doctors of the Church, so the practice is certainly based in Tradition. Whether a woman does so or not does not affect my opinion of their faithfulness to Catholicism as such, as a person, etc.
Should have clarified the newspaper identity for my American friends, so I understand the confused caused.
Go Habs! Souvenez-vous, just holding your rosary a la Messe is to hold the hand de Notre Dame. You might get looks, but you won't notice, and so, you won't care. Mais, Elle t'aiderai de prier de bon coeur. Ste-Therese, priez pour nous. Merci.
David, that is not true. Mr. Swan gave me my first assignment at the CR and has always been a friendly and supportive colleague, mentor and friend. We often see things from completely different points of view, and voices have been raised, but he has never said a disparaging word to me. In fact, I have NEVER heard him say a mean word about anyone, ever. He is a lot more tolerant and charitable about people than traddie me, and that is a fact.
Michael is a REPORTER, one of the few the CR has on staff. (We columnists way outnumber the reporters, and yet it is the reporters who do the tiring work of chasing or following up stories) There are only so many stories he can cover, and it helps a lot when people call him to tell him there's a story the CR should be interested in. And if he can't cover it and the editor is interested, then maybe someone else can cover it. If anyone in the archdiocese knows of a news story of interest to the people of the archdiocese and they think the CR should cover it, they should alert the CR.
As for the Facebook link, Michael links to anything he thinks of particular interest, including my columns in the CR. And as you know, I never shut up about traditional liturgy, piety and belief. So although Michael does interview people you and I strongly disgree with, he has NOT consistently shown a bias against traddies.
We fight against both a cultural and liturgical revolution. We have to re-build a traditional Catholic culture. The Mass of the Ages, and the dignity through dress and behaviour should not be a simply aggregation, or by virtue of another metaphor, an ill-placed graft on the Tree of Life that is the One True Holy and Apostolic Faith (that modernist Rome is not. It (Conciliar Rome) like unto a growing poison oak creeper that seeks to strangle the Tree, and yet sees itself as a good thing.)Wearing appropriate dress at Mass is the natural organic outgrowth of proper devotion, whose strong limbs are the Mass and devotions, and whose roots are Tradition. (I could draw beautiful parallels along the tree theme between the True Rome and NewRome using Tolkien, but that would constitute a long article, and lengthiness maketh shy a few of those who visit the blog.)
On the note of length, it is a tough call for valiant TH2. When it comes to such matters, some people cannot handle a full sumptious meal, and need smaller portions. Others by different virtues are able to do so. There ought to be room for both.
And for a closing shot across the bow.....CCCB....CCCP.....coincidence? Not in my book. :-)
Heterodoxy and heresy will only stand a chance of being unmade when V2 and its documents are thrown into the lugubrious wellsprings from which they were forged. Alas for the modernists, V2 is their Precious.
Response below, David!
Mantillas are relatively new in countries without much Spanish influence. It's probably no coincidence that the first women I ever saw wearing mantillas at Mass were Filipinas.
In the English-speaking world, women usually just wore the standard head fashion which, in the 50s, was fabulous little hats like mine.
Women in Germany were not covering their heads at Mass as early as the 1920s. It just wasn't standard practise there, and I'm relatively sure Saint Edith Stein didn't cover her head as a laywoman. I don't know why German women didn't, but they didn't. They still don't, I'm told, at FSSP and even SSPX Masses.
And, out of curiosity, what appropriate dress do you wear to Mass?
Yes, Scotland, I have notice those fabulous hats. Very nice.
V2 was the apostate council anything of it should be ignored if a person claims to be catholic
I like the "Precious" analogy.
Go Habs?! Should be Go Leafs!... wait, maybe you're right. Leafs haven't made the playoffs in last number of years. Thusly, we say: Go Habs!
