I’m not sure the conclusions expressed in the two videos are mutually exclusive. While it may be true that health and wealth increases with fewer children (and though Rosling presents a compelling argument, there are factors not accounted for in the data he presents, e.g. despotic governments that prevent the building of infrastructure), it is also true that the trend cannot be maintained. That’s when the demographic winter sets in and society implodes.

And we’re almost there.

You hit the nail right on the head. Beyond the admittedly fascinating graphical presentation of the data, Rosling does not take the healthy-weathly-lesser-children argument and extrapolate (a statistical term) it to its logical, yet terrible, conclusion: healthier-wealthier and lesser-people (w/implicit anti-natal philosophy) cannot take care of increasing numbers of the elderly, maintain economy, pay taxes.... which is why I put up the Demographic Winter video (H/T to Lola) as a kind of extensional counterpoint... to which Mary caught...i.e. "not... mutually exclusive"

On a totally unrelated topic: remember the little back and forth we had on my blog about the solar miracle at Fatima, and the one book that said Our Lady said that if the children had not been kidnapped in August 1917, the miracle would have been greater? And we were puzzled by that, because this isn't mentioned in Lucia's memoirs? Here is a source for it: http://www.ewtn.com/library/MARY/tsfatima.htm

This is written in the '50s by a priest who lived several years in Fatima and spent a lot of time interviewing witnesses, including Lucia herself and the parents of Francisco and Jacinta. It's an entire book online. See what you think.

Merci m'Lady. Thanks for taking the time to check into it. I'm going to check it out now...
