It's probably no coincidence that the first women I ever saw wearing mantillas at Mass were Filipinas.

In the English-speaking world, women usually just wore the standard head fashion which, in the 50s, was fabulous little hats like mine.

Women in Germany were not covering their heads at Mass as early as the 1920s. It just wasn't standard practise there, and I'm relatively sure Saint Edith Stein didn't cover her head as a laywoman. I don't know why German women didn't, but they didn't. They still don't, I'm told, at FSSP and even SSPX Masses. We have to re-build a traditional Catholic culture. The Mass of the Ages, and the dignity through dress and behaviour should not be a simply aggregation, or by virtue of another metaphor, an ill-placed graft on the Tree of Life that is the One True Holy and Apostolic Faith (that modernist Rome is not. It (Conciliar Rome) like unto a growing poison oak creeper that seeks to strangle the Tree, and yet sees itself as a good thing.)Wearing appropriate dress at Mass is the natural organic outgrowth of proper devotion, whose strong limbs are the Mass and devotions, and whose roots are Tradition. (I could draw beautiful parallels along the tree theme between the True Rome and NewRome using Tolkien, but that would constitute a long article, and lengthiness maketh shy a few of those who visit the blog.)
On the note of length, it is a tough call for valiant TH2. When it comes to such matters, some people cannot handle a full sumptious meal, and need smaller portions. Others by different virtues are able to do so. There ought to be room for both.

And for a closing shot across the bow.....CCCB....CCCP.....coincidence? Not in my book. :-)

Heterodoxy and heresy will only stand a chance of being unmade when V2 and its documents are thrown into the lugubrious wellsprings from which they were forged. Alas for the modernists, V2 is their Precious.Marc Ratusznoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191489412373415438.post-83766098560311791342012-10-02T09:19:15.414-04:002012-10-02T09:19:15.414-04:00David, that is not true. Mr. Swan gave me my first...David, that is not true. Mr. Swan gave me my first assignment at the CR and has always been a friendly and supportive colleague, mentor and friend. We often see things from completely different points of view, and voices have been raised, but he has never said a disparaging word to me. In fact, I have NEVER heard him say a mean word about anyone, ever. He is a lot more tolerant and charitable about people than traddie me, and that is a fact.

Michael is a REPORTER, one of the few the CR has on staff. (We columnists way outnumber the reporters, and yet it is the reporters who do the tiring work of chasing or following up stories) There are only so many stories he can cover, and it helps a lot when people call him to tell him there's a story the CR should be interested in. And if he can't cover it and the editor is interested, then maybe someone else can cover it. If anyone in the archdiocese knows of a news story of interest to the people of the archdiocese and they think the CR should cover it, they should alert the CR.

As for the Facebook link, Michael links to anything he thinks of particular interest, including my columns in the CR. And as you know, I never shut up about traditional liturgy, piety and belief. So although Michael does interview people you and I strongly disgree with, he has NOT consistently shown a bias against traddies. When I see National Catholic Register, I think of the good one run down here in the States by EWTN.
Clearly though, both the Non-Catholic Reporter & your Catholic(?) Register miss the whole point, this isn't about costumes & dress up, it is about faithfulness to the magesterium & the attraction to the truth found in it.
Wait a minute, maybe they do know it & that is why they are mocking it. They see that they are losing the battle with what they teach so rather than admit they are wrong, they attack those messengers with the truth.AllenThttp://pulse.yahoo.com/_V7NATYZZBUQBAHCFH2ZBTVEZHInoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4191489412373415438.post-73155458289559822132012-10-01T16:35:22.915-04:002012-10-01T16:35:22.915-04:00Mr. Swan should read the Documents of Vatican II. ...Mr. Swan should read the Documents of Vatican II.
